Re-Imagining the Centre
A multi-dimensional artwork created for and staged within the traditional heart of the city of Inverness, Re-Imagining the Centre grows out of the three year public art experiment which has seen artists working alongside local people to redefine their city for the contemporary era.
Between the 8th - 13th September 2009, more than 20 artists presented works within the public spaces of the 'Highland Capital'. Some projects were quiet and required searching out, others loudly demanded attention and participation, and all celebrated the re-emergence of the city centre after three long years of transition.
The IOTA project began in 2006 with Imagining the Centre which used local artists and artworks to stimulate a conversation about what kind of city they would like to be part of. Re-Imagining the Centre invited a mix of Highland artists and those from further afield to work with Inverness and respond creatively to its new guise - to further fuel the flames of creative re-invention for the city and its people.
