A Strategy for the Future

25 July 2010

We're happy to announce that the Highland Public Art Strategy will now be under the creative vision of Sorcha Carey.

Sorcha has extensive experience of curating, commissioning and delivering artists’ projects in the public realm, including Antony Gormley’s Another Place, an installation of 100 bronze figures installed along 3km of Crosby Beach. She was a curator on the public art programme for Liverpool Biennial’s International exhibitions in 2006 and 2008, involving over 30 new commissions, including works by major artists such as Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Atelier Bow Wow and Ai Weiwei. She has a BA in Classics from Cambridge University, and an MA and Phd from the Courtauld Institute of Art.

The Strategy will reflect the unique context of public art in the Highlands (which has included diverese projects such as the Ness Islands, Eden Court theatre and IOTA's Re-Imagining the Centre) and work towards informing the Council's vision for the city's future by supporting innovation and providing a practical framework to enable successful projects within the next few years.

Sorcha will be carrying out research, liasing with project staff and local communities and focusing on the strengths of the area to ensure a workable and dynamic Strategy is created and delivered, allowing Inverness to continue to grow as an important location for art in the public realm.
