Abertarff Bench

Riverstone bench outside Abertarff HouseNewly installed outside Abertarff House on Church Street, is the RIVERSTONE BENCH designed by David Trujillo-Farley and produced by Sutherland based craftsman Sam Barlow.  This design was created through a collaboration between the two practitioners and provides a quiet place for local people to pause for a moment...

The shape of the text was inspired by the continual movement of the River Ness and the water theme in DUFI's street-texts.  The hard texture of the materials - Scottish Oak and Caithness stone - contrast with the gently curving lines of a poem - RIVER - by Kenneth C. Steven, 2002.

Sam Barlow comments: "David's design is stunning - I particularly like the combination of materials, using each one for it's best properties.  I enjoyed working closely with David on the technical design to create a durable and sculptural bench.  It will withstand the elements and be much used in this busy Inverness location, whilst maintaining the lightness, visual grace and natural feel of the materials."
